Heart & Mind Exhibition

First Friday Santa Cruz presents Heart & Mind, a special month-long exhibition featuring creative visual expression that represents the conversation between the heart and mind. Featuring over 70 local Santa Cruz artists in a range of medium and scale both visual and performing, the work explores the journey that the heart and mind are on together in our bodies. The exhibition will be up for the month of April.

Two of my double exposure photographs will be on display as large format prints.

What stories do these images hold for you?

Do they remind you of something you’ve felt at one time or another?

We all hold stories, and through double exposures, I explore the stories we carry that are complex, layered, and not easily explained with words. They touch on elements of intuition and connection that are deep within us as instinctual and human. At the same time, we live inside routines and constructs that shape how we move through the world. We experience the push and pull between feeling and thinking, wildness and structure. The coexistence between them reflects the path the heart and mind are on together.

The analog medium of film photography reminds me to embrace imperfection and impermanence. A double exposure on film can never really be predicted or recreated—much like lived experience itself.
